School Description and Mission Statement (School Year 2020–2021)

Community

Fusion Charter is operated in a six-classroom building with offices and a multipurpose room/gym owned by Aspiranet. The school is located on four acres at the southwest edge of Turlock, adjacent to Highway 99, orchards and prime farmland producing almonds, milk, chicken, walnuts and other crops. Although Stanislaus County and neighboring Merced County are ranked among the top ten agricultural counties nationwide, much of the population is in poverty; unemployment and lack of affordable housing are serious concerns.

Fortunately, local avenues provide hope to our students. Turlock is home to California State University Stanislaus students eager to volunteer on our campus. The Turlock Regional Industrial Park on the west side of Highway 99 provides emerging biotech and agri-business career readiness opportunities. Fusion Charter is building strong partnerships with both entities.

The Impact of COVID-19 in 2020-2021

During the COVID-19 school shutdown, all students were served off campus via 100% remote learning. In October individual meetings on campus began to be offered to struggling students. Fusion’s plan discontinued the project-based activities in Summit Learning for Grades 8 and 9, using Edmentum PLATO for all core coursework and Newsela for current events for Grades 8-12. Federal CARES Act funds were used to provide wifi and devices for all students.

During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, Fusion will continue to focus on our vulnerable community’s well-being as stated in our revised 2019 mission and vision statements:

Fusion Charter’s Mission

“Fusion Charter will use a trauma-responsive approach and practical, high-interest, individualized learning to engage students and provide a pathway to college or career.”

Fusion Charter’s Vision

“We envision a loving, trauma-responsive school where all students prepare for a future in which they thrive.”
