About Our School
The past school year has been challenging for every family in the world. The global pandemic has impacted everyone in profound ways. NVMI has worked hard to remain focused on supporting all students and their families in surviving the pandemic, growing academically, and being socially connected and emotionally strong. We are so proud of the grit and resilience our students and families have shown during these trying times. Our motto, Per Ardua Ad Astra (through adversity to the stars) really describes the NVMI community during this pandemic. Through significant adversity, our amazing cadets and families have persevered and achieved great things. We are proud of the fact that we were able to get nearly 95% of our students to complete the state testing. This number represents more than four times the state average. While those results continue to show us that we need to work even harder to help all students meet state standards, they also provide a road map for what and how we should be working with students to improve metrics. We graduated a wonderful Class of 2021, 100% of whom graduated on time and 100% of whom successfully gained admission to a four-year college or university. Those 85 students collectively completed MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND college semester credits while enrolled at NVMI which are transferable to Cal States, UCs, and private colleges and universities. We will have two of our graduates commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Army as they graduate from New Mexico Military Institute and enter the armed services as officers. One of our graduates will graduate in the West Point Class of 2023. Seven of our 2021 graduates graduated with an associate degree from Los Angeles Mission College, and 22 entered college as freshmen, thanks to our dual enrollment Early College Program. We conducted a magnificent summer camp experience at Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA during June 2021 which afforded nearly 200 cadets the opportunity to complete one of 12 career/technical education pathways, including auto mechanics, cyber, engineering, police, fire, medical, lifeguarding, and culinary arts. Despite the horrific realities of COVID, NVMI's cadets worked through those adversities and reached the stars, and I am a very proud school leader - thankful for our incredible staff and families and students who accomplished so much despite those challenges.
