About Our School
Our nurturing school strives to meet the needs of all learners on campus through a rigorous curriculum designed to target learning standards from kindergarten to sixth grade. Our school has adopted a health and fitness focus and we have made great strides with our efforts! Our students walk for 15 minutes every morning before school, participate in several movement breaks throughout class time, receive 120 minutes of physical education each week, participate in lunchtime intramural sports, 3rd-6th grade students have the opportunity to participate in six after-school sports (baseball/softball, running, soccer, basketball, volleyball and hockey), and all grades (K-6th grade) are able to participate in the Kids Run the OC Marathon! In addition, we have three gardens where we grow fruits and vegetables.
Hermosa is proud of the diverse ethnic, language, and cultural backgrounds each student brings to the campus. We provide a variety of specialized programs such as the VIP 1:1 iPad program, Gifted and Talented Education, inclusion classrooms, Anaheim Ducks Hockey Program, and Service Learning Projects. We have been honored with the California Gold Ribbon Award and America’s Healthiest Schools Award which highlighted these special programs. Parents and community volunteers are ever-present on campus and partner with staff to support our school extensively through instructional assistance, supporting specific student needs, preparing materials, and coordinating special events and fundraisers.
Standards-aligned, research-based, and technology-rich classroom instruction taught by our highly trained staff, delivers curriculum to all students. A comprehensive system of assessment and data analysis is in place to monitor student progress and achievement and to ensure growth with a refined, systematic intervention program to support students at each grade level. Technology is routinely utilized to strengthen and extend learning experiences for all students in grades K-6. The VIP 1:1 iPad Program involves all students where each child has a personal iPad for curricular use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Arrival on our park-like campus ensures a personal greeting for each student from our principal and staff, and a "sea of school spirit" greets visitors on spirit days as students and staff visibly show their Hermosa pride. We are proud to be a K-6 elementary school helping all students to ‘Learn-Move-Achieve’!
